Mechanical Assembler III-IV

Mechanical Assembler III / IV
  • Perform diversified operations to assemble, install, rebuild or repair intricate, large, expensive precision machines.
  • Assembly and erection procedures in accordance with customer specifications and sometimes with complicated assembly drawings.
  • Skilled fitting of parts, sub-assemblies, other units, in addition to alignment, adjustment and required secondary machining and fabrication.
  • Work with engineers, be capable of complex problem solving and corrective actions.
  • Occasionally called upon to instruct, oversee the work of other lower classification mechanical assemblers.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments and gauging devices, inspect and test completed machine subsections, and participates in the testing and final inspection of completed machines.
  • Assembly of components, weldments, & subassemblies per engineering specifications in an accurate and timely manner. Accomplished through reading and interpreting mechanical prints to determine procedures and assembly sequences to be used.
  • In coordination with the supervisor or lead, layout machines mechanically to meet customer specifications.
  • During assembly process, exercise logic to identify problems, alternative solutions, and best approaches to eliminate assembly problems is required.
  • Tasks may also include some light wiring, pneumatics, and bracketry fabrication in support of Electrical Assembly. During the assembly extra bracketry will need to be created & fabricated. Adjustments to tooling in support of machinery debug. Creating and/or updating documentation.
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent (associates degree in automation or another mechanical field would be beneficial).
  • Minimum 3 years experience demonstrating broad mechanical aptitude and understanding mechanical assembly principles and practices.
  • Math skills, able to read blueprints, understand operating - maintenance - procedure manuals, and use various precision measuring / testing equipment to validate and troubleshoot the work.
  • Understanding of G.D.&T. (Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) is beneficial but not required.
  • Operate portable power tools and machine tools such as mill, drill press, band saw, cut-off saw and grinder.
  • Experience using a forklift and overhead crane is beneficial but not required.
  • Carpentry, pneumatics, and hydraulics is beneficial but not required.
  • Working with computers is required and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is beneficial.
  • Experience / training in electrical assembly, robotics, welding (MIG or resistance) beneficial but not required.
Work Context:
  • Basically work independently.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (safety glasses, shoes, gloves, etc.).
  • High level of accuracy is required.
  • Must have hand-eye coordination and be able to work in an environment where standing is the norm.
  • Travel to customer sites (some travel international) for installation and service requirements. This travel can be up to 25% of the time but on average throughout the year will be near 10%.
