Manages all tool room activities supervising daily operations, solving technical issues, maintaining tool history, and implementing safety rules to ensure customer specifications are met and tools are ready for production in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
Directs and coaches tool room personnel, assigning and scheduling tasks and projects, completing effective tool repairs and efficient new tool builds, and mentoring the growth and professional development of tool room personnel.
Works closely with tooling and manufacturing engineers along with production supervisors to improve plant safety, part quality, line productivity and tool performance.
Manages tool room consumables ensuring proper stock for cutting tools and holders, replacement details for tools, jigs and fixtures, and spare parts for tool room equipment.
Job Description:
Under administrative direction, supervise 8 to 10 tool room employees, including the planning and scheduling of work priorities.
Provide regular written updates on project status and develop mitigation plans as necessary.
Responsible for Company’s technical support, tooling expertise and Company’s in-house source for tool quotations.
Support Production Objectives and New Product Development.
Perform and recommend research into new tooling design and revisions to legacy tools, jigs, and fixtures.
Stay abreast of state-of-the-art technology and new methods for metal stamping.
Recommend new tool room equipment and/or production equipment to maintain and advance tool room capabilities.
Responsible for properly coordinating Preventive Maintenance program with the Maintenance and Production Departments.
Maintains clean and orderly work areas and oversees other tooling areas to ensure cleanliness and orderliness are maintained.
Hire, coach, and mentor tool room personnel.
Promote a good safety attitude, practice, and teamwork.
Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Great Leadership skills
Journeyman Mold Maker/Tool and Die Certification, an Engineering or Industrial Management degree is a plus
Experience leading and managing tooling projects.
Supervisory experience minimum of 3 years
Excellent communication, project management and organizational skills
Experience with IFS or similar ERP software is a plus
Familiarity with CAM software such as BobCAD-CAM, Mastercam, Esprit CAM or similar CNC programming software
Proficient in MS Office Suite
Basic shop math skills
Experience with 5S and LEAN is a plus
Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and routinely lift items up to 50 pounds
