Mechanical Project Engineer
Location: Auburn Hills, Michigan

Summary:

Performs and coordinates activities to develop assembly concepts for assembly stations and/or assembly concepts for aspects of assembly lines to establish reliable and cost effective solutions with the goal of improving quality, timing and cost. Executes the mechanical design of an assigned project, from initial project kick-off through installation, while working with project core team.
Duties and Responsibilities (not all inclusive)
  • Compliance with company, legal, and regulatory requirements for Health, Safety, and Environmental topics in order to foster a culture of Health & Safety.
  • Performs and coordinates design activities in the early phase of a project, simultaneous engineering, and project follow up, including concept development, feasibility studies, reference research, and product layout design.
  • Develops mechanical-related primary specifications for projects; also assists and shares ownership of project station specifications.
  • Works with project core team to develop and share ownership of project timing, as well as ensuring Workfront tasks are up to date.
  • Develops design concepts and completes designs for stations with a high degree of complexity.
  • Development of standard assembly units of an assembly line in the early phase of a project in compliance with project specifications, Company standards, customer requirements, and engineering principles.
  • Reviews and improves design concepts for compliance with engineering principles, Company standards, customer requirements, and specifications.
  • Lines-up and leads designers and detailers (internal and/or external) to successfully execute designs.
  • Checks feasibility and cost effectiveness of proposed design concepts.
  • Takes responsibility for the quality and completeness of design for assigned areas.
  • Regular attendance at the assigned job site(s).
Education and/or Experience
Bachelors degree (B.A.) in a related field from a 4-year college or university, with 5 plus years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Design capability using Inventor 3D and/or Solidworks 3D, and AutoCAD 2D is required.
  • Experience with automation design, powertrain assembly system design, battery assembly system design, or special machine design is required
  • Working knowledge of product lifecycle management software.
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling software (i.e. Workfront).
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Ability to understand customer and applicable international standard requirements.
